DescriptionInside Glacier National Park’s museum storage facility is a diverse range of objects and specimens. There are approximately 600,000 items related to Glacier’s natural and cultural history within the park collection, including photographic prints and negatives, original Lake McDonald Lodge furnishings, documents, maps, architectural drawings, herbarium specimens, and fossils.
Glacier National Park Historical Photographs
This collection features selected photographs from the Glacier National Park Archives that showcase the history of the park. These images capture the park’s mountains, roads, trails, and buildings as well as people that worked and played in its spectacular landscape. Some of the notable photographers represented in this collection are George Grant, Fred Kiser, and T.J. Hileman.
Glacier National Park Naturalist Newsletters
This collection contains newsletters produced by Glacier’s naturalist rangers, such as “Nature Notes from Glacier National Park” (1927-1930) and “Glacial Drift” (1931-1938). These publications focus on the park’s natural history and include original essays, wildlife observations, poetry, drawings, and assorted musings by park staff. Through this miscellany of instructive and entertaining content, rangers sought to develop a better understanding and appreciation of nature among readers.

This collection features digitized records from the Glacier National Park Archives that document the history of the park. Included in this collection are annual Superintendent Reports, which detail the management and state of affairs in the park for a given year.
